soil protection

It will be some time before our leek seedlings will be strong enough to drop into their deep holes.

Our experience has shown us that it is better to grow the leeks until they are good and strong before gently teasing the tangled roots of the clump of baby plants apart and planting.

This delay may mean that the soil is bare for several more weeks and so we have broadcast phacelia onto the soil.,The phacelia will hold the soil structure together and prevent leaching of soil nutrients while the leeks grow in their pot at home.

We will hoe it off when the leeks are ready.
