garlic

The allotment looks bare. The green manures that would normally give an air of fertility and lushness to the early spring garden have perished in the winter.

But all is not lost!

The rich green leaves of our overwintering garlic stand out against the bare soil. Their cousins, the overwintering onions are also beginning to look strong.

We have now planted all of our summer onions and our shallots. It will be some time before our seedling leeks are ready and so I have planted their bed with phacelia green manure until the ground is needed.
