shallots fail to thrive

Our onion bed has been slower this season. Onion sets (red or white) struggle on in the foreground while more vigorous garlic stands tall and strong behind.

Last year was a bumper year for shallots but we are not alone in finding that this years bulbs have failed to thrive.
