harvesting garlic

Overwintering garlic looks to have been successful this year.

Most remains in the ground and only those bulbs with yellowing leaves have been lifted so far.

Two varieties were planted in the winter - "Thermidrome' and 'Christo'. The latter is maturing first and a big bunch has been tied together to hang in the greenhouse to dry.

The car filled with the sweet smell of fresh garlic as we came home.

Here are the bulbs immediately after they have been lifted. They do need a good long 'curing' in the heat of the greenhouse to ensure that they store through the winter into the spring.
