another tiny step of progress.....

On a drab and damp day in November we took another step towards our new garden. Our family team worked speedily thanks to my strong son!

Box used as hedging (nineteen plants) were lifted and transported to their new temporary home and firmed into planting holes that had been enriched with bonemeal.

More ground was cleared, turned over and turf stacked so that we now have a rectangle of 8mX 3m cleared.

Next week I will barrow up as much well-rotted muck as time alllows. I will then take out more shrubs from home and plant those into the 'nursery bed' to rest there until spring 2012.

With enough time I will finish with a mulch to lock in moisture and to provide more fertility.

Rob,
I meant to comment before on your last few posts, but how interesting to take on a new gardening challenge, and to have to convert your subsoil to good soil with inputs of compost and other organic matter.

Hope the snows haven't been too heavy for you!
