relieved oak!
In my last post I mentioned the young oaks that had been smothered by a rampant privet hedge and buried by builders' rubble.
The oak pictured on the left has become the emblem of the site for me. At present the site is crushed beneath bricks and concrete and native flora and fauna is waiting to be given its chance.
Here's the before and after photos following excavation!

The sense of relief from the poor little tree was palpable after its heavyweight and bruising quilt was removed. 'Let freedom ring'!
It was also given a 'makeover' with broken and twisted lower branches trimmed to give it this smart new look.
We're hoping that our small oaks will now go on to flourish in our stewardship of the site in the years ahead.

Hmmm! very Nice! I like your Efforts very much..doing well:) Thanks
Thanks for comment - not sure whether it's spam or not.
You didn't offer viagra this time or an introduction to a young person in Russia who very much wants to be my special friend.
Nor do you want to deposit my jackpot winnings from the Nigerian lottery if I only give you my bank account details.
So, thanks.
Rob
Came across your blog via the Ecologist top 10 blogs, via The Yarden Blog, via Facebook and will be following along. Concerning the comment above from WNWD, I own a business too but I assure you I will not be soliciting you for business, being 4664 miles away in Edmonds, WA, USA and all. I'm actually really just interested in sustainability and interesting stories. So, hmmm, very good, well said, good job... doing well, thanks. :)
Great comment James!
You are clearly one of the good guys and so I will accept offers of jackpot lottery winnings from you if they are forthcoming as a special exception!!!
Thanks for interest and best wishes.
Rob
Can I ask a stupid question?
Have you considered piling your bricks in a mound and covering it with earth rather than carting it away (expensive) - A bit like the Huorns did with the dead orcs after the Battle of the Hornburg?
From One Beer Too Many (UT)
I need to let you down gently now Chris.
Here goes ..... gently now.....
THE LORD OF THE RINGS IS JUST A STORY AND IT ISN'T REAL!!!!!
THERE ARE NO ORCS OR ENTS.
Having got that out of the way and while you're sniffling into your keyboard the point you make is a good one.
After we have crushed concrete and bricks they will be used in foundations and to give thermal mass to the northern side of the building. if there is a surplus, we will grade it out, cover with soil and landscape it.
So, keep that weissbier flowing!
Rob
I am very much looking forward to a description as well as a few photos of the machine you will use to crush the bricks - or are you going to bring in a couple of out-of-work trolls?
From UT
It is one thing, being a fantasist...
Quite another to criticise in this public way two of my closest friends. They read this blog!!
Rob
Goodness, I'm just enjoying how nice-looking your oak is now.
