tracking cuckoos

It has become increasingly uncommon to hear the once common cuckoo calling in spring. This year, I heard one calling from the neighbouring woodland  Crimea Plantation. But that was it. I didn't hear any others.

Our cuckoo numbers have fallen drastically in recent years and so the BTO project to track their migrations to and from Africa is particularly important and interesting.

Birds were fitted with radio transmitters and their journeys to sub-Saharan Africa tracked. Until the project, it was not known where the birds travelled to and spent their winters. This information could be vital in helping to understand factors outside the UK that may be leading to population fall.

I've put a link to the tracking cuckoos project under 'lets work together'.
