Currantly cropping…

Day 24 #365DaysWild 

The birds completely stripped our redcurrant bushes this year.

But first the white currants whose berries hang down obligingly for the ease of the picker were harvested .. 

and now the blackcurrants which are much more grudging are fruiting.


Such a warm, distinctive scent and berries bigger and juicier this year thanks to the rain. Abundant.


Big bowlfuls collected, picked over, washed then frozen on trays before being boxed and stored.

A powerful hit of vitamin C and a deliciously sharp edge to strudels and compotes.

 ..with lots left for nature..




And here we go with 10% of my weekly plant species intake in one delicious bowl of organic porridge and sultanas with our own organic, home-grown blackcurrant compote…
