Field scabious

Day 20 #365DaysWild

Scabious. The sort of condition you’d put in a forged letter to get out of PE?

Actually, it is a real star and one of our most beautiful native plants, slowly spreading in our meadow and orchard. Gorgeous now.

Field scabious (knautia arvensis) is the larval food plant for six moth/ butterfly species.

It is a popular nectar source for many insects.

I will collect seed and cast on scarified ground after mowing to spread this lovely plant further.
