Morning walk

Day 79 #365DaysWild

Morning walk.

Before breakfast.

Rich in nature and history.

Chiffchaffs proclaiming their names. Swallows fattening for their long migration.

This photo taken on the ‘Colliers Pad’ path in Bestwood Country Park that miners once walked along between Hucknall and Bestwood pits and their homes in the town of Arnold.

A friend, now in his eighties, recalls the colliers walking back along this path after their shifts  ‘in their black’ before pit head baths were introduced.

Another friend tells of his fathers horror as a ‘Bevin Boy’ war conscript miner at having to get into the tub for a bath post-shift in the tiny parlour with his newly-adopted family sitting around while his mate washed his back.

Thanks to all those engaged in voluntary work supporting the heritage and nature of our public places.
