There is a satisfaction in the garden.
Warm November drizzle.
Two buzzards hanging overhead until shepherded away by crows.
Skylarks call from the fields.
Amethyst deceivers have emerged. Purple in the rain.
Bird feeders jet-washed, disinfected and refilled.
Leaves beneath the limes mowed and stacked. The heavy walk-behind mower we call ‘The Beast’. Grass
centre of the Woodland Garden mowed. My biggest leaf pile ever? A tumbled burnished duvet. Needs small people to jump on it.

Winter brassicas under seige from pigeons. Pecking protection provided. I know I’ll be outwitted by a larger intelligence. Clearing vegetable beds continues. Arising to compost.
Final beans and bay leaves collected for drying.
New orchard bird table in process. It will be set in the cover of the shrubs by the lane hedge. Will it attract house sparrows? Protection provided from sparrowhawk predation.
The new chain saw to be assembled next time.
