perpetual community payback
Day 166 #365DaysWild
Scything in the meadow this morning. Digging out brambles and other unwanted perennials. Then wheelbarrowing arisings to our linear compost heaps.
We cut parts of the meadow down to the ground each year. Other parts we cut on a three-year cycle so that the mature sward can support invertebrates, their eggs, larvae and pupae; small mammals and overwintering birds.
Sooo very kind of Mike and Gill volunteered to join us in return for lunch.
Sometimes our lives feel as though we’re on perpetual community payback. Visitors make the sentence less onerous.
Thank you.
