Star jelly ..

Day 250 #365DaysWild

Gelatinous lumps by the pond.

Thanks to Wildlife Garden Project and Amphibian and Reptile  Conservation for help in identifying what the substance could be.

They suggest it is the product of predation of frogs. It is rejected by the predator after female frogs have been taken. Sometimes described as ‘star jelly’.

Mystery predator could be fox, badger, carrion crow, tawny owl or mallard..

A wildlife camera will be set up to try and discover the culprit.

Watch this space!!
