King Calabrese!!

Calabrese is one of the most- reliable croppers for organic gardeners. This variety ‘Marathon’.

Shoppers buy calabrese as ‘broccoli’ but for gardeners, broccoli is a different plant, whose delicious peppery flower stems are harvested in spring.

Keep pesky pigeons and butterflies away and calabrese just grooow.

Each grows a main ‘head’, then after this is harvested many smaller florets grow.

This one had tucked himself away and I’d missed it, massing under the leaves of the cabbages with which it was co-habiting.
