cornflowers

The UK fresh cut flower and indoor plant market is worth over £1.45 billion. £26 per person per year.

I haven't been able to find out how much fertiliser, weedkiller, electricity and water the industry consumes. But it must be huge!!

And why????? Why do we spend so much money with such a negative environmental effect on flowers when most of us can grow our own for many months of the year. Organically. Locally.

Trev is responsible for these cornflowers. They were sown from seed and must be tenacious to have made it through the sodden summer. They have been flowering for some time and they are not just popular with me. A big hoverfly was passing and obligingly stopped at just the right moment at 'the service station'.

So, let's grow more of our own flowers It's better for the environment, better for us and better for wildlife.
