fieldfares return

A busy time away from the garden, but back this weekend.
Pictured is some of the produce brought home:
calabrese
leeks
beetroot
..and spinach.
All delicious and the spinach stalks especially enjoyed by the hens.

In the large poplars to the north of the allotments a group of fieldfares (overwintering Scandinavian thrushes) clucked. A sure sign that we are entering the cold season.

Congrats on a top blog, have just started out (haven't even broken the ground on the allotment yet) so will be returning to get tips etc.

Don't feel you need to dig it all over immediately.
Do a section at a time and be prepared not to complete it in a year if the going is tough.
You don't actually need to dig at all!
Cover the unbroken and weedy ground with cardboard and cover this with organic matter like compost, manure or leaves. Nature will then do the work for you!!!!!!!
