life in the freezer

The work isn't finished when you put the spade away. Oh no!

Back home the produce needs to be washed, checked, blanched and frozen.

Here blackberries, raspberries, green beans, calabrese and sweetcorn cool ready for the freezer.

The are all frozen 'flat' on trays so that they do not freeze together in a block.

The worst job is finding space in the freezer for it!

What a great shot of your trays of produce ready to be frozen. We're currently on a preserving binge here too. Freezing is next on the list with beans and corn.

I just hope I didn't leave the corn too late. I have this dread of serving it to my mum and every mouthful containing corn that is like small bits of wood!
I'll do it earlier next year.

This is inspiring me to get with preserving the harvest (and getting a chest freezer).

After going to a local foods potluck this evening (not as much experience growing your own as I'd expect), and interest in local food through the winter, I'm thinking I need to start encouraging folks (here in our mild winter region) to grow hardy greens, etc.

And maybe I need to encourage them to re-think about what they can grow to store and preserve as well --

Thanks for the inspiration,
Lisa

I started doing this with cookie sheets in my freezer this year as well! So far I've only done blueberries and beans. It's fun, until the tray slides off the bag of whatever in the freezer and spills all over the place. Live and learn!

Great work, keep it up!
