helping honey bees

A recurring theme of this blog is the decline of insects. A tour around our small garden on a sunny summers day in June recorded seven bumble bees. Our garden is stuffed with simple flowers guaranteed to get bees busy.

Over on bees and beyond I'm waiting with excitement to read Linda's story of the arrival of her first colony of bees.

She has had her queen 'Birgette' arrive and a small colony of attendants.

Over the next year, with luck and good husbandry, the colony should grow to 50,000 bees. That's a mighty lot of good pollination, pots of delicious honey and swarms of fun too.

Follow their story.
