Clean air

Day 31 #365DaysWild

Demand clean air for our children!!

There are 40,000 excess deaths each year in the UK due to air pollution.

Lungs damaged by air pollution during childhood may never recover.

We must not allow the right to clean air to become a hostage to political expedience. Shame on those politicians who play these games with our children’s health.

And let’s not pretend that it is only humans affected by air pollution.
Wildlife too can suffer health effects from exposure to air pollution. Birth defects, diseases, and lower reproductive rates have all been attributed to air pollution.

During the recent BBC Springwatch series, a piece was carried showing the effects of excess nitrogen pollution (eutrophication) on distant sand dunes. Where there was once sand with a unique biodiversity, lush vegetation had aggressively grown due to air-borne pollution. The complex biodiversity was lost.

We’re a mile from the nearest busy road, surrounded by trees but online tools still show our air as being polluted.

For our children and for wildlife - clean our air.

Clean air for all!!
