Dahlias are still flowering generously in the vegetable garden. Invertebrates large and small are busy throughout sunny days.

We chose dahlias with big open flowers and let them grow at the end of beds.

And cheap as chips too. Free when we ordered bulbs. Not named varieties. But really lovely.
Although they are not frost-tolerant, we don’t lift them over winter - as the books tell us - but leave them in our sandy soils to grow vigorously again in the following spring.
