Roasted …

Day 115 #365DaysWild

A poor year for us with polytunnel (hoop house) tomatoes. They ripened slowly and were then affected by blight.
The outdoor tomatoes all failed with blight.

We brought lots of green tomatoes into the utility room for ripening. Tomatoes ripen at 70-75F or 21-24C
Ripening stops above 85F or 29.4C when pigments carotene & lycopene cannot be produced.

And tonight the kitchen is filled with the enticing smell of tomatoes roasting with oil, red onions and sprigs of rosemary. When cool they’ll be frozen for cooking.

We’ve had our polytunnel for over ten years and the time has come to make a decision. Should we replace the tired and sagging plastic or not?

A difficult call..
