Ghosts??

Day 347 #365DaysWild

Poppies, geums, iris buzzing today.

But really?

What we do know is that we’ve lost millions of invertebrates. We’re using more pesticides that are more toxic than ever..

What we may see as buzzing isn’t at all. A shadow of the abundance we would once have expected.

This loss of biomass clearly impacts populations of insectivorous mammals and birds that rely upon it.

A consequence is a depressing list of birds missing from our garden including swallows, house martins, garden warblers, swifts, cuckoos, spotted flycatchers, willow warblers, house sparrows and starlings. The list goes on…

Our skies are empty. Our countryside is almost silent.
