the first footprints in snow

The cold winter weather is still here, in fact, on Thursday I had to close school because mine was the only car in the car park just before school opened!

So, all thoughts of getting down that list of garden jobs, all talk of sowing calabrese and planting shallots is forgotten.

Instead, we walked on the footpath from Ravenshead to Papplewick and had hot chocolate in The Griffin's Head pub before walking back again. There is something quite special about making the first footprints in snow.

Ours were the second and third sets - a fox had left its prints before us.
